Proposals include River Metro, lake boardwalks, and clean mobility for resilient cities in J&K.
Srinagar 22nd September. National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, today submitted a report to Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after attending the Kochi Urban Conclave 2025, where he represented Jammu and Kashmir.
In his note, Sadiq called for the creation of a dedicated Urban Commission in J&K on the lines of Kerala’s pioneering model to tackle rapid urbanisation, congestion, and ecological challenges. He also proposed a River Metro on Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Dal, integration of storm water, sewage, and sewerage systems for lake conservation, and collaboration with TERI on electric mobility and urban innovation.
Sadiq further suggested developing boardwalks around Khushalsar and Gilsar lakes to clearly demarcate and conserve their fragile ecosystems while turning them into attractive, people-friendly spaces for citizens and tourists alike.
“Both Kashmir and Kerala face the same questions: how to protect our lakes and heritage while building modern, resilient cities. This is the right time for Jammu & Kashmir to learn, adapt, and lead,” Sadiq said.
