Srinagar, September 18 — Minister Sakina Itoo on Wednesday said that the state’s education authorities will take into account the disruption of studies caused by extraordinary circumstances such as war-like situations, heatwaves, and floods while finalising students’ syllabus and examinations.
She said the government was aware of the hardship faced by students and would ensure that the academic calendar and syllabus reflect the realities on the ground so that pupils are not unfairly burdened.
Separately, responding to Mehbooba Mufti’s recent remarks on the control of highways in Jammu & Kashmir, Itoo came out in support of NC vice-president Omar Abdullah, who had said that highways were under the jurisdiction of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
“What wrong has Omar Abdullah said? He said it right,” Itoo remarked. She accused Mehbooba Mufti of double standards, saying that during Mufti’s tenure “worse things happened” and questioning why, if she believed the issue was in Omar Abdullah’s hands, she sent her daughter with a memorandum to the LG instead of approaching Abdullah directly.
Calling on Agha Ruhullah, National Conference MP, she added that he too should personally raise such issues rather than relying on indirect messaging. “We will take care of students’ syllabus because their studies have been badly affected. And as far as the highway is concerned, Omar Abdullah spoke the truth. Mehbooba Mufti herself should know this; if she believed otherwise she should have sent her daughter to Omar and not to the LG,” Sakina Itoo said.
