Srinagar, September 18, 2025: Police in Srinagar have registered an attempt-to-murder case after a 52-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her drug-addicted son in the Bemina area.
The victim, Urfana, approached Police Station Batmaloo with a written complaint, stating that her 22-year-old son, Adnan, a resident of New Colony Bemina and son of Irshad Ahmad Bhat, attacked her violently. Officials said Adnan is accused of habitual drug abuse and violent behavior.
A formal case has been registered under FIR number 72/2025 at Batmaloo Police Station, under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with section 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), which pertains to attempt to murder. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
The injured woman has been admitted to JVC Hospital Bemina for treatment. Her condition is being monitored, though the exact extent of her injuries has not been immediately confirmed.
Police sources noted that this case highlights a worrying rise in drug addiction among youth in Srinagar, which has often resulted in domestic violence and family disputes. Authorities have repeatedly warned about the link between substance abuse and criminal behavior in recent months.
Locals expressed concern over the incident and urged authorities to strengthen anti-drug campaigns. “Drug addiction is destroying young lives and tearing families apart. Strong action is needed to curb this menace,” said a resident of Bemina.
Police confirmed that the investigation is being pursued on priority and further action will be taken against the accused once preliminary evidence and medical reports are analyzed.
