Srinagar, Sept 5: National Conference MLA from Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, on Thursday voiced strong opposition to the installation of a sculpted figure at the revered Hazratbal Dargah, calling it a violation of Islamic beliefs.
“I am not a religious scholar, but in Islam, idol worship is strictly forbidden—the gravest of sins. The foundation of our faith is Tawheed. Placing a sculpted figure at the revered Hazratbal Dargah goes against this very belief. Sacred spaces must reflect only the purity of Tawheed, nothing else,” Sadiq said.
He urged Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darkashan Andrabi to take corrective action against the installation, rather than targeting those who have raised their voices against it.
“Dr. Andrabi should take action against this, not against the people who have raised their voice. I have only used my fundamental right to speak, and I have not done anything wrong. Now we will see what the police do,” the MLA added.
The remarks come amid public outrage in Srinagar over the placement of the sculpted figure at the shrine, with many locals demanding its removal on religious grounds.
