SpiceJet said on Sunday that a senior Army officer, due to board flight SG‑386 from Srinagar to Delhi, physically assaulted four ground staff members at the Srinagar airport on July 26, resulting in one of them suffering a spinal fracture.
An FIR has been lodged with local law enforcement, and the airline has begun procedures to place the passenger on the no-fly list, in line with civil aviation safety regulations.
SpiceJet stated that the altercation erupted after staff informed him that his twin cabin bags, weighing 16 kg, exceeded the 7 kg limit, and asked for additional charges; the officer allegedly became aggressive at the aerobridge gate and struck out with punches, repeated kicks and even a queue stand, captured in videos circulating online. Staff injuries reportedly include a spinal fracture, jaw trauma, bleeding from the nose and mouth, and one employee losing consciousness after being kicked while assisting a colleague.
