Officials confirmed that two people died and three others were seriously injured when an XUV lost control near midnight and plunged into a nallah around 12:40 a.m. on Sunday along the Kathua–Basohli Road near Kainta Morh (Dakhnaka).
A Police Post Basantpur team promptly reached the scene, rescued and rushed the five passengers to GMC Kathua, where doctors declared two occupants — Mohinder Paul (60) and Pawan Madhan (50), both members of a Punjab-based Amarnath Yatra community kitchen team — brought dead. The remaining three, all from Ferozepur, remain hospitalized with critical injuries.
Authorities have registered a case and taken cognizance of the incident, as investigations continue.
