Srinagar, 19 July :The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a high-level committee to examine cracks reported on the Bemina Flyover, part of the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway Bypass.
The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar and includes key members from multiple technical and administrative departments. These members are Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works (R&B) Department, Chief Engineer of PW(R&B) Kashmir, Chief Engineer of Srinagar Smart City Limited, Chief Engineer of Design, Inspection & Quality Control Kashmir, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Srinagar, and one expert from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. The order also allows for the inclusion of any additional member to be co-opted by the Chairman, if necessary.
The committee has been tasked with carrying out a comprehensive technical inspection of the flyover to assess the nature and extent of the cracks. It will examine whether the design, construction methodology and quality of materials used were in line with required specifications and standards. The panel will also determine if there were any lapses during the execution of the project, evaluate the present structural safety of the flyover and recommend remedial measures to ensure structural integrity and public safety.
The committee is required to submit its detailed report within one month from the date of issuance of the order.
