Srinagar, June 15 : National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Hazratbal, Tanvir Sadiq, criticized the Lieutenant Governor’s decision to provide a government job to the widow of Adil Shah, a pony operator killed in the Pahalgam attack, and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) demand to make Urdu non-mandatory in the Naib Tehsildar exams.
Speaking about the LG’s decision, Sadiq specified inconsistencies and described them as “deliberate confusion.”
“Last night, a tweet from the LG’s office claimed that the job was granted under a relaxation of rules. This contradicts the LG’s earlier statement that while the police fall under his direct jurisdiction, other government departments do not. Both statements cannot be true, and it appears that confusion is being intentionally created,” Sadiq said
He questioned the governance framework of Jammu & Kashmir and reiterated the NC’s demand for restoring statehood. “A dual power system cannot work in Jammu & Kashmir; it is harmful to the region’s stability,” he added.
On the BJP’s demand to make Urdu non-mandatory, Sadiq expressed strong opposition.
“Urdu is not tied to any particular religion or community. For over 130 years, it has been a unifying language in Jammu & Kashmir. The Maharaja chose Urdu because it was widely spoken and understood. Removing Urdu now would be an attack on the region’s identity,” he stated.
Sadiq accused the BJP of politicizing the issue and framing it through a communal lens.
“This attempt to marginalize Urdu is unjustified and impractical. The National Conference considers Urdu a fundamental part of Jammu & Kashmir’s legacy and will firmly oppose any such move,” he further added.
