JAMMU, May 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, his first during ongoing Operation Sindoor, in which anti-terror operations and arrangements for upcoming annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji figured prominently.
Shah reached here late this evening on two-day visit of the region and drove to Raj Bhawan to chair the high-level security review meeting which was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat and other top officials of MHA, Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, civil administration and Intelligence agencies from Centre as well as the UT.
The meeting lasted nearly one and a half hours.
The Home Minister will visit the border district of Poonch tomorrow where he will address the Pakistan shelling-hit civilians, BSF soldiers at their Unit Headquarters at Khanetar, visit damaged religious places and distribute appointment letters among next of kin of those killed in the shelling.
Evaluating security arrangements and preparedness meant for Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrims, the Home Minister instructed to maintain utmost vigilance and ensure seamless completion of the sacred journey.

Shah is reported to have directed all security agencies to make fool-proof security arrangements for 38-day-long pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji in South Kashmir Himalayas beginning July 3. Other arrangements for the yatra were also discussed with the civil administration.
The yatra will conclude on August 9.
“Security situation in Jammu and Kashmir post April 22 Baisaran (Pahalgam) terror attack was also reviewed and senior officers of police and security agencies gave an update to the Home Minister,” the sources said, adding Shah directed security agencies to ensure that terrorists including those involved in Pahalgam killings are eliminated at the earliest.
They said a strategy to step up search operations against the terrorists including upper reaches of the Jammu region has also been devised. There has been presence of the terrorists, mainly Pakistanis, in the hills of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch. During past couple of months, several contacts have been established by security forces with terrorists in the mountainous areas.

After a three-day tour beginning April 6, Shah had again visited Kashmir on April 22 in the evening of Pahalgam attack.
Meanwhile, General Upendra Dwivedi, Army chief, today visited the White Knight Corps at Nagrota to assess the operational readiness of the formation.
He was briefed by the GOC White Knight Corps, on the prevailing security situation and the operational dynamics along the borders.
The COAS commended the troops for their exemplary performance in Operation Sindoor and appreciated all ranks for their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment.
Additionally, the Army chief emphasised the importance of remaining adaptable to the evolving security challenges along the borders, reaffirming the need for continuous vigilance and preparedness
