Police in Ladakh have intensified search for a 36-year-old woman from Nagpur who went missing from one of the last villages in Kargil along the Line of Control (LoC) on May 14.

Though her whereabouts were not known yet, police officials said that the woman had tried to cross over to Pakistan near Amritsar border in Punjab in March this year. She was stopped by the Border Security Force (BSF) then, the officials said.

Before she went missing, the woman left behind her 15-year-old son at a hotel in Kargil.

The woman had arrived in Kargil on May 9 and went to Hunderban village in Kargil along the LoC without her son.

A police official said they had no information if the woman had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The woman had worked as a nurse few years ago. Her family in Nagpur has been informed and her son is in the custody of the Child Welfare Committee.

The hotel authorities informed the police after the woman did not return from Hunderban village, located around 10 kilometres from Kargil town.

The LoC is under the operational control of the Army.
