Security forces resumed an anti-terror operation in a remote forested area of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, after an encounter that killed three terrorists and three policemen. Seven others were injured in the previous day’s gunbattle. Search parties focused on retrieving bodies, locating a missing policeman, and neutralizing any remaining threats. Drones spotted three terrorist bodies, while the fate of two others is unknown.
The operation against suspected Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists began early Thursday and involved the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, and CRPF.
In an operation near the International Border with Pakistan in Hiranagar, three police personnel, including the SDPO, were admitted to Kathua hospital with stable conditions, alongside two injured army personnel. The operation began when terrorists were intercepted in Sanyal village, leading to a massive search involving multiple security forces. Despite efforts, the terrorists escaped, possibly heading towards Jakhole. Evidence found at the encounter site included loaded magazines, grenades, and materials for IEDs. Officials believe the terrorists infiltrated via a tunnel or ravine, with the People’s Anti-Fascist Front claiming responsibility for the attack.
