Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, who is the chairman of the Divisional Level Committee for monitoring Eco sensitive zones, on Thursday chaired a meeting to discuss formulation of the Zonal master plan for Surinsar Mansar wildlife sanctuary.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioners of Samba, Udhampur, Regional Wildlife Warden, Regional Director Ecology and Remote Sensing, DFOs, besides officers from Agriculture and allied departments, discussed the action plan for conservation of Eco sensitive zone within 10 km from the periphery of the wildlife sanctuary.

It was stressed that the purpose of the development of eco sensitive zone is to protect the flora and fauna of the wildlife sanctuary.

The meeting held detailed discussion on the activities that are to be prohibited, regulated and to be promoted in the eco sensitive zones by the concerned departments.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the Regional Wildlife Warden and Divisional Forest Officers to share the list of activities to the District Administrations for maintaining the Eco sensitive zones.

He further directed the Chief Agriculture officers to prepare an action plan for promoting organic farming and plantation drives.

The meeting decided to review the action taken on the decisions and directions in the next meeting.
