JAMMU, Feb 11: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today held third high-level review of security situation in jammu and Kashmir in past one week in which he emphasized the role of paramilitary forces to achieve target of terror-free Jammu and Kashmir and asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to ensure zero infiltration from the International Border.
Shah held first security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on February 4 with top Army officials including Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and others while the next day, he met Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence officials and civil administration. Today’s meeting was attended by heads of Intelligence Bureau, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other senior officers.
February 4 and 5 meetings were joined by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Senior MHA officials were present in all the meetings.
Addressing today’s meeting, Shah said the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed for terror-free Jammu and Kashmir and stressed role of paramilitary forces to achieve this target. He directed the Border Security Force to ensure zero infiltration from the International Border by adopting strong vigil, strengthening the Border Grid and use of advanced technologies for surveillance and border guarding.
The BSF mans the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in the Jammu region.
Shah directed the CRPF to continue with synergy with Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. He reviewed the winter action plan of CRPF and directed that there are no gaps in the area domination. He called for focus on Jammu region and dominating the heights.
There were reports indicating movement of terrorists in the upper reaches of Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts where they struck last year targeting security forces, pilgrims and Village Defence Guards (VDGs). Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and SOG have strengthened their positions in the upper reaches to eliminate the terrorists.
The Home Minister also reviewed the intelligence apparatus working in Jammu and Kashmir and directed them to increase coverage and penetration to generate quality intelligence. He reiterated the importance of technology in intelligence generation.
Shah said monitoring of terror-financing, tightening grip over narco-terror cases and dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in J-K are the priorities of the Modi government. He said strong steps are being taken for a ‘zero terror plan’ in the UT.
He also directed focusing on countering the negative propaganda by the anti-national elements to place the correct picture in the public domain. He stressed continuing with the synergy amongst the agencies and guided for adopting technology and increase intelligence.
The Home Minister directed all security agencies to remain alert and continue work in a synergies mode to eliminate terrorism in J-K and assured that all the resources would be made available in this endeavour.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and other senior officers attended the meeting.
