Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired the sixth meeting of the District Level Cooperative Development Committee at the district headquarters to discuss cooperative sector plans.
Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Jammu, Tasbina Sheikh apprised the meeting that for the International Year of Cooperatives, the committee set out activities for the year. These include awareness camps for Multipurpose PACS (M-PACS) formation, food processing unit launches and cooperative week celebrations with farmer awareness camps.
During the proceedings, the DC emphasised the critical importance of timely implementation of food processing and storage infrastructure projects, including Consumer Marketing Societies and super bazaars. These initiatives are designed to boost farmer incomes while ensuring the long-term sustainability of cooperative enterprises.
The committee reviewed progress on targets from the Margdarshika document. Three PACS are in registration, with two more in process. Eight dairy and three fishery cooperatives have registered, with mapping and geo-tagging of areas in progress.
In the food processing sector, Multiple Purpose Cooperative Societies (MPCS)- Sohal MPCS Akhnoor, Nandpur MPCS Bishnah and Biaspur MPCS RS Pura – have received loans and subsidies.
DDM NABARD Sonika Rana, Chief Agricultural Officer Vinod Kundal, AD Fisheries Munish Sharma, Lead District Manager Romesh Chander, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Assistant Registrars, among others concerned was present at the meeting.
