JAMMU, Feb 8: An individual, wanted in a recent firing incident at Phallain Mandal area here, has been injured in the retaliatory firing by the police on the Ring Road in Miran Sahib area today.
A police official said that armed with weapons, Daljot Singh alias Daljot Punjabi of Dashmesh Nagar, Satwari, jammu , one of the key accused in Phallain Mandal firing incident, was travelling in a Bolero vehicle along with his associate Aman Singh alias Anu of Kathua, from Samba towards Jammu, to commit a serious nature of crime.
On getting information, he said, a joint naka was established on the Ring Road by SHOs of Miran Sahib and Satwari Police Stations Jaipal Sharma and Jai Paul Singh.
When criminals were signalled to stop, they fired on the police party, he said, adding that in the retaliatory fire in self-defence, Daljot Punjabi sustained a bullet injury in his leg.
Accordingly, he was shifted to Government Medical College Jammu, where he was responding to the treatment when the last report poured in.
While police have arrested Daljot’s associate, Aman Singh alias Anu, a manhunt has been launched to nab the other accused wanted in the crime. Two firearms and other ammunition were also recovered from the vehicle of the accused, which has been seized.
Police have also registered a case FIR number FIR number 23/2025 under sections 109, 3(5), and 3/4/25 Arms Act at Police Station Miran Sahib and started further investigation into the matter.
According to the police official, Daljot Singh is a history-sheeter as several cases, including under FIR number 80/2024 under sections 126(2), 115(2), 304(1) BNS and 04/25 Arms Act and FIR number 270/2024 under sections 109, 191(2), 115(2), 126(2), and 3/4/25 Arms Act have already been registered against him at several police stations.
