JAMMU, Dec 7 : Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi today reviewed the operational preparedness of Udhampur-based Northern Command which has its units in jammu and Kashmir and ladakh among others.
He also chaired discussions aimed at further enhancing joint capability, which was attended by the senior officers from the Army, Indian Air Force, Navy and the ITBP during his visit to the Northern Command, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army wrote on x.
Official said Gen Dwivedi visited Command Headquarters at Udhampur before leaving for Ladakh where he presided over the meeting of the officers.
Gen Dwivedi also inspected the latest inducted state of the art weapons, equipment and other logistic assets. He commended all ranks of Northern Command for their professionalism and the initiatives taken by the Command towards achieving synergy in operations.
During his visit to headquarters Northern Command, the Army chief honoured Brigadier (Retd) Harcharan Singh, Havildar (Retd) Khajur Singh and Naik (Retd) Mohammed Aslam Bhat with the ‘Veterans Achievers Award’.
Brigadier (Retd) Singh has dedicated his post retirement life to making a significant impact on the lives of veterans. His notable contributions include streamlining veterans’ data in the Sainik Welfare Board, ensuring benefits reach the deserving persons.
He is also an integral part of project ‘NAMAN’, which supports Veer-Naris and their families. His efforts have facilitated free legal aid for Veer-Naris and have supported disabled soldiers through the NGO, War Wounded Foundation.
The ADGPI said Havildar (Retd) Khajur Singh has demonstrated unwavering commitment to afforestation and women empowerment post retirement.
In 2016, he founded the Sanjeevani Jan Kalyan Seva Samiti, an NGO that has planted over 1 lakh trees in J&K and empowered school going girls through self defence training.
His efforts have fostered positive change within the community, inspiring a brighter future, the Army said.
It said Naik (Retd) Bhat post retirement, has pioneered the art of Kiwi cultivation in Chenani tehsil of J&K, transforming barren land into thriving orchards.
He introduced modern farming techniques and mentored fellow veterans to explore agriculture as a post-service career, contributing to regional economic growth and enabling a sustainable income source for many veterans.
