Gaurav Gupta, former general secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, expressed deep concern over the rising menace of drug peddling in the Union Territory, seeking stern action against those involved in this heinous act.
In a press release issued today, Gaurav Gupta welcomed the recent statement made by DGP RR Swain, connecting the drug mafia with militancy, highlighting that a majority of drugs are being supplied from Pakistan. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Jammu, is currently under the grip of drug peddlers, posing a serious threat to the well-being of the community.
He asserted that some unscrupulous elements are jeopardizing the future of the youth by enticing them into drug-related activities. He emphasized that such persons should be regarded no less than terrorists and treated accordingly. He emphasized the gravity of their actions, asserting that the detrimental impact of drug peddling on society is comparable to the threat posed by terrorists.
He also underscored the urgency of addressing this issue with the same level of seriousness and urgency as counterterrorism efforts, urging authorities to adopt stringent measures against those involved in drug peddling.
Gaurav Gupta commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their relentless efforts in breaking the backbone of the drug peddling network and intensifying their operations against these criminal activities.
Gaurav highlighted that Lieutenant Governor Sinha has unequivocally emphasized the indispensability of public support and participation in the collective fight against the menace of drugs. Stressing the collaborative nature of the endeavor, he underscored LG Sinha’s assertion that addressing the challenges posed by drugs necessitates a united front where the general public plays a pivotal role.
Gaurav appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to extend full support to the government and Police Department in its ongoing stride against drug peddlers. He expressed the need for a comprehensive and community-driven approach, acknowledging that without the active involvement of the public, the battle against drug abuse cannot be effectively waged.
