Principal Secretary Culture, Suresh Kumar Gupta, today visited Shri Partap Singh Museum, Lal Mandi, here and took stock of exquisite treasures of region’s cultural legacy displayed in the galleries there.
Director, Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh and other concerned were present on the occasion.
During the visit, the Principal Secretary visited various galleries of the museum and was briefed about the precious collection displayed/housed in the galleries. He strolled through the corridors adorned with artifacts, the rich tapestry of Kashmir’s history unfolded before him. He emphasized the crucial role of every stakeholder in preserving and promoting the region’s cultural heritage for the posterity. He had a detailed review regarding the conservation and related works being done in the museum and asked the concerned to ensure that all the sections of the cultural repository are maintained in a proper way.
The Principal Secretary expressed optimism about the role of SPS Museum in fostering a sense of pride and identity among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The museum, he maintained, could serve as a bridge connecting the past with the present, fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s cultural diversity.
He also visited the Shergarhi Complex Srinagar i.e. Art Museum, Archives Repository Srinagar and Art Gallery which has been proposed to be converted into a Toy Museum. He examined various archival records housed in the Archives Repository Srinagar and also interacted with the research scholars regarding the facilities being provided by the department.
The Principal Secretary also took stock of various revival and renovation works during the visit.
