Jammu reports first case of JN.1 coronavirus variant

Jammu: Jammu yesterday reported its first case of JN.1 coronavirus sub-variant, while there are 109 so far that have been reported in India.

The first case of JN.1 was detected in the capital city hours after authorities sent multiple samples for genome sequencing and one of them tested positive for the new variant.

“The man is a doctor whose sample has been sent for the testing along with his family members in Jammu. The family members of the corona infected person have been kept aloof from him, the report said.

While 40 more cases of Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1 were reported in India in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of the new variant to 109. Thirty-six cases were detected from Gujarat, 34 from Karnataka, 14 from Goa, nine from Maharashtra, six from Kerala, four each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and two from Telangana.
