Anand Marriage Act: Poonch Sikh community expresses gratitude

Poonch: The Sikh community in Poonch on Thursday expressed gratitude for their long pressing demand of implementation of Anand Marriage Act in J&K.
The rules have been framed by the J&K LG administration for registration of weddings under the Anand Marriage Act, which provides statutory recognition to marriage rituals of Sikhs.

The members of the Sikh community in Poonch held a press conference and thanked LG Manoj Sinha, Home Minister Amit Shah and PM Narender Modi for implementing the Anand Marriage Act in J&K UT.
“I deeply thank media both electronic and newspaper based who raise our concerns to the masses and the govt. I want to thank from the depth of my heart to LG Manoj Sinha, HM Amit Shah, PM Modi and on behalf of J&K’s Sikh community because they have fulfilled our long pending demand since 70 years of enacting Anand Marriage Act in J&K”, said a member of the Sikh community in a press conference.
“I hope that the other pending demands of Sikh community will also fulfilled under PM Modi regime’s”, he added.
‘Jammu and Kashmir Anand Marriage Registration Rules, 2023’ were framed for the registration of “Anand marriages”, under which tehsildars concerned shall be the registrar of Sikh weddings within their respective territorial jurisdiction, as per a government notification issued.
