Srinagar endured an exceptionally cold night as temperatures plunged to a bone-chilling minus 5.3 degree celsius, marking the coldest of the season.
An official from MeT apprised a local news agency that In Srinagar, the summer capital, the latest night witnessed bone-chilling temperatures at minus 5.3, marking a stark contrast to the previous night’s minus 5.1.
The official said that Pahalgam experienced a notable temperature drop to minus 5.3 from the previous night’s minus 1.5.
Gulmarg, a winter wonderland, reported a consistent low at minus 5.5, mirroring the temperatures from the previous night, which stood at minus 3.5, he said.
Qazigund witnessing a dip to minus 3.2 from the previous night’s minus 2.6, he said. Kokernag reported a minimum of minus 2.1, down from the previous night’s minus 2.3, and Kupwara experienced a decline to minus 3.7 compared to the previous night’s minus 2.4, he said.
Even in Jammu, known for its relatively warmer climate, a slight decrease in temperatures was recorded at 7.1, compared to the previous night’s 9.8, he said.
Till 21st December, he said dry and cold weather most likely to continue over most places of J&K with possibility of brief spell of very light snow at isolated extreme higher reaches of North & North Eastern parts of Kmr Division during the night of 16th Dec.
Shallow to moderate fog likely to continue at many places of Kashmir division, he said.
