Drugs supply module busted in Jammu jail

Akhnoor police yesterday stated to have busted the sensational drugs supply module in Central jail at Kot Bhalwal, with the arrest of three accused.

On November 22, 2023, a Cosco ball was found in the premises of Central jail Kot Bhalwal during routine searches and on opening of this, narcotics (heroin like substance) wrapped in capsules and a pen drive were found. On receipt of this information, a case FIR no 92/2023 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act and section 42 of Prison Act was registered at police station Gharota and investigation was started.

“On November 28, again information regarding recovery of a Cosco ball in the premises of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal was received and on opening it, narcotics (heroin like substance) wrapped in polythene was found. In this regard, a case FIR no 97/2023 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act and section 42 of Prisons Act was registered at police station Gharota and investigation was taken up,” said police.

Sensing the gravity of the situation and frequency of incidents in a sensitive location, a special team, headed by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma and also comprising SHO Akhnoor Zaheer Mushtaq; SHO Gharota Joginder Singh, was constituted by SP Rural Rahul Charak.

“The special team activated the human intelligence system and collected all technical data of the jail periphery. The team also conducted a survey of jail inmates, who were lodged (in jail) in the recent past,” police said.
