J-K: Several arrested for celebrating India’s defeat against Australia in World Cup 2023 final

Several students on Monday have been arrested in Ganderbal district of Kashmir for celebrating India’s defeat by Australia in the men’s cricket World Cup 2023 final on November 19.

As per sources, the incident happened on November 19 when seven local students studying in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Shuhama campus in Kashmir’s Ganderbal district expressed joy over India’s  defeat in recently concluded Men’s Cricket World Cup and raised pro-Pakistan slogans, following which a confrontation took place between seven local students and non-local student from Punjab namely Sachin Bains.

The Ganderbal police acting on Sachin Bains complaint that he was abused and was given death threat for taking India’s side during the match by his seniors namely  Asif, Mohsin, Tauqeer, Khalid, Sameer and Ubaid nabbed them.

A Case  FIR (317/2023) has been registered at Ganderbal police station on the basis of a written complaint by Sachin Bains r/o Punjab studying in the same university, while a probe in this matter has been set into motion.
