Shop burgled in Jammu, lakhs stolen

Jammu: Thieves broke into a shop in Sant Nagar area of Jammu and decamped with lakhs of rupees last night yesterday.

According to the report, the burglary took place late in the night yesterday when some thieves entered in a hardware shop situated in Sant Nagar market area of Jammu city by cutting a portion of the shop’s iron wall and stole Rs 4 lakh cash by breaking the cash box kept in the shop.

Pertinent to mention that there are police check posts on both sides of the Sant Nagar market where the burgled shop in located.

“I have been running this shop since 40-45 years. I have not seen such a theft in my life.

“There are police nakas here on both sides of the road and a day before yesterday I was here at 1am to unload my goods. One of the boys who work in a nearby hotel apprised me that he saw a boy breaking my shop’s shutter but he ran away when he saw the hotel worker”, said Mr Rohit Gupta, Owner of the hardware shop.

“There are cameras installed here but no footage is available. We haven’t witnessed a theft here and the thief knew where we I kept the cash box in the shop”, he added.

“The situation is very bad there should be security guards in the market. The thief might be familiar with the shop that’s why he carried out this burglary because he was aware where the goods and cash box are in the shop”, a local man said.
