Jammu: Soldier kills self

An Army personnel allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle inside 31- RR Army camp yesterday.

According to the reports, the incident took place this morning at around 1100 hrs, when Naik Harish Chandra Singh (38), resident of Uttarakhand, posted with the 31-RR Army Unit at Udhampur, shot himself with his service rifle in the camp.

After his colleagues heard the sound of gunshot, they immediately rushed to the spot and saw him lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the senior officers of the unit.
After getting the information, the senior officers of the unit reached on the spot and evacuated him to Command Hospital Udhampur where he was declared as brought dead.

Later, the body of the deceased was brought to District Hospital Udhampur for autopsy.
Cause of provocation behind the extreme step could not be ascertained while a case under section 174 CrPC has been registered for further investigation, said SHO Udhampur, Raghuvir Singh.
