Illicit unit raided, huge quantity of adulterated sweets seized in Jammu

Jammu: The Food Safety Department on Tuesday raided an Illegal sweet manufacturing unit and seized huge quantity of sub standard materials from it in Kathua on Wednesday.
Ahead of the the Diwali festival Food Safety Department, Sales and Tax Department are making surprise visits to sweet and jewellery shops in Jammu to ensure that the traders and confectioners don’t violate rules.
As per report, acting on a specific information a team of Food Safety Department raided an illegitimate sweets manufacturing unit in Ward No.7 of Kathua town run by outsiders illegally.
The team found that the milk products and sweets were made with substitute products used to manufacture the cheapest sweets while putting the health of consumer at risk. The team seized huge quantity of adulterated sweets being manufacture on the spot.
Samples of Rasgulla, Ladoo, Kalakand , Gulab Jamun were seized and tested on the spot by a mobile van laboratory of Food Safety Department.
“We have found confectioners in ward no.7 of Kathua. We have tested a sweet made by them which has failed quality test.
“We will take legal sample and will take action against the confectioner. He will not be able to work again in future till he procures a valid license. We will present a challan against him for not having a license to make sweets.
“I appeal to local people to not buy cheap sweets and only buy sweets from reputed shops because there are chances that people may become ill if they consume cheap sweets. People should eat quality sweets”, said a Food Safety Department official.
