Jammu: As the Ganesh festival celebrations come to an end, Jammu locals bid adieu to Ganpati idols on Thursday. Lord Ganesha’s idols are being immersed in Tawi river across the city.

Several visarjan (idol immersion) processions were taken out in the city from almost all corners of the city. Big idols were brought to Tawi river on mini trucks, tractors and small ones were carried on lap or over their head by the devotees.

“We have been celebrating Ganesh visarjan since last 16 years. We started taking out processions in 2009. Now it is observed in every region of Jammu”, said Mahant Sanjay Shastri.

“Ganesh ji is the symbol of happiness, prosperity and fate. In the very beginning Lord Ganesh ji use be worshipped  where ever someone starts a new work.

“Mahant Sanjay Shastri started Ganesh visarjan 16 years ago in J&K. We pray to Ganesh ji for prosperity, peace for J&K and wanted its statehood back.

“It is believed that when the idol of the Ganesha is taken out for immersion it also takes away the various obstacles of the house and these obstacles are destroyed along with the visarjan. People also get blessed by the procession of Lord Ganesha”,  a local man said.

“We also pay our tributes to our fallen heroes who sacrificed themselves in the line of duty in Kokernag recently”, he added
