Muslims participate in last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit

Scores of Muslims participated in the last rites of an elderly Kashmiri Pandit (KP) who passed away yesterday in a local hospital in Srinagar.

As per the report, Avatar Kishan Ganjoo a lone Pandit and resident of Sebdan village of Budgam, who was a govt teacher by profession was hospitalised in a local hospital after he become unwell, but unfortunately he breathed his last yesterday.

As the news of his death spread in Budgam , hundreds of people  from different areas of the district rushed to his residence and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. Later the body was taken in a procession to cremation ground in which scores of Kashmiri Muslims participated.

“It is a very sad moment for us that Mr Ganjoo has expired. He was a very good teacher and has also taught people for free.

“Our whole society is in sorrow”, a local resident said.

Avatar Kishan Ganjoo didn’t left the valley in 1990’s when lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits left Kashmir in the wake of terrorism which killed thousand of them.

“This was the only family that remained back when the situation worsened in 1990s. He lived with love and compassion with us.

“It’s sad that he left us. A large number of people have gathered here to express sorrow over his death.

“We are doing what we can do on humanitarian grounds”, said another local man who participated in Avatar Kishan’s final rites.
