Husband & in-laws held allegedly for woman’s murder over dowry in Jammu

Jammu: The husband and in-laws of a woman who was found dead in the house of her in-laws had been arrested by the Jammu police over the dowry allegations as alleged by the victim’s family.

The victim was identified as Priya Chib.

“My daughter’s in-laws continuously to harass her over more dowry and also thrashed her many times she used to apprise me.

“They murdered my daughter and dragged her body down the stairs and kept her there.  This family is very greedy.

“We have given them everything”, said, Mother of the victim, crying.

“They murdered and dragged her all the way from first floor to the second and kept her body near the gate.

“In the evening the in-laws called somebody and he checked Priya’s nerve and declared her dead.

“We were around 150 people who came here and this statement was recorded in the presence of police”, claimed, Father of the deceased woman.

“This is a suicide case as reported but Priya’s family has raised allegations of murder against her in-laws.

“We have assured the victim’s family members that an impartial  inquiry in this case will be done.

“The family members of the victim’s in-laws on whom the Priya’s family have suspicion they have been held by the  police.

“We have started inquest proceedings and I have personally constituted a team of doctors for Priya’s autopsy and everything will  be done in 10 days.

“The emotions of the people are heightened up here and to give and receive dowry is illegal.

“If someone marries somebody just for dowry it is wrong. Relations are made and are not sold.

“We will also record the family’s allegations of dowry in this case if they tell us”, Additional Deputy Commissioner said.
