Jammu: There are many cases of Eye flu aka ‘Conjunctivitis’ or ‘Pink eye’ are being reported from many Indian states and Jammu is no longer behind as the region is receiving constant rains and it’s many areas are waterlogged. The humidity in the Jammu region is also one of the reasons which provides favourable conditions to this viral infection to spread in the eyes and many cases are coming up here.

“We are getting 80-92 cases of conjunctivitis in our OPD of 100 capacity daily. The patients who are affected with eye-flu don’t belong to a specific age group.
“But mostly children are seen affected with this viral infection because they can’t maintain hygiene and their immunity is low compared to an adult.
“This time in this viral infection we have seen two symptoms in patients one is eyelid edema means eyes are getting swell and other condition is subconjunctival hemorrhage de to which eyes bleed.
“But fortunately complications due to this virus are less cause it is getting cure in 5-6 days. We have take to precautions and have to clean our hands and eyes frequently.
“We should avoid touching our eyes frequently and should wash our hands with soap if we mistakenly touch them.
“We should keep our handerkchiefs separately rather we shouldn’t use it because the frequent use of handerchiefs on eyes can infected our eyes cause the virus remains in it.
“The good option is to use wipes and dispose them after usage. People should keep their towels separate for usage and should avoid touching surfaces.
“Children are also getting fever because of this and there are complaints of eye-swelling and pain in ears, which means viral component is high in this infection.
“But we have also seen bacterial discharge that means it is also high in component. One should use medication such as eye drops prescribed by doctors and should wash eyes frequently.
“One should wipe eyes properly after cleaning them. One can also use compresses to reduce swelling and to soothe irritated eyes.
“Due to constant rainfall and rise in humidity the bacteria growth rate has surged in Jammu. The children who are more infected they should avoid going to schools as they can transmit the eye infection to other kids.
“We should break this chain of transmitting conjunctivitis to others. In case of small children the parents should wash their hands and eyes frequently with soap.
“The parents should keep warm water in a utensil and cotton so that after cleaning eyes with warm water, the cotton can be thrown away.
“We have got so many patients today. We are advising the patients who are visiting us to maintain their hygiene and we will also paste informational charts here regarding the viral infection.
