JK Channel’s impactful report moved Jammuities to help cancer patient, his family by its heartfelt appeal

Jammu: A family from Jammu’s Lower Thather area of Bantalab who was in dire need of help for themselves and their blood cancer suffering father, who was hospitalised for an year after the diagnosis of six-lettered disease the world dreads – cancer, in a hospital in Jammu, has received the miraculous aid from the natives of Jammu, after their poor plight reported by media.
Mr Darshan Lal, 46, who is suffering from blood cancer and whose life has been saved by JK Channel’s team extensive ground report, after its reportage went viral and created an emotional stir in the minds and hearts of Jammu masses, due to which local NGOs, Jammu Mayor and Ward Councillors and scores of locals still lending their helping hands to aid the poverty-stricken family as per their calibre.

Speaking to the media, Mrs Rita Devi, said, “I have a 13-year-old son who manages to earn by working with a truck daily, with which we get our daily bread”.
“We have pleaded to people many times for my husband’s blood arrangement just like a beggar and for an year he was hospitalised”, she said sobbing.
“On Sunday, the doctor told us to take him home, we have no earning hand else our situation would have been different”, she said wailing.
“I don’t have money otherwise I would have him treated in Chandigarh or somewhere else”, she asserted emotionally.
“My husband is ill he can’t eat nor drink, we have nothing to eat. My kids don’t have clothes, access to school”, Mrs Rita said in an emotional tone.
“What I can do alone, he soils in his clothes and there is no one to look after him when I leave for work”, she said.
“My father is so unwell that he cant drink or eat and my brother has left school as we don’t have books, clothes”, said, Sonia, Younger daughter of Mr Darshan Lal.
“If we had money we would have treated him in a good hospital”, she added.
“I study in 8th class, my father is unwell. I don’t have uniform, books, I have secured a division also”, said, Krishna, Son of the victim.
“I informed teachers about my father’s condition but they told me to bring books to school, he financed our education when he was healthy, now how he can. We don’t have anything to eat now”, he added.
“We’re under 30-40K debt for borrowing essentials from shops, we don’t have ration. He was labourer when he was fine”, Victim’s wife added.
“We have to feed him through a pipe as he can’t eat by himself, we also move him around cause he can’t walk”, Victim’s elder daughter said.
“Sometimes my mother or me wash his clothes, when he soils in his pants, what to do we’re going through so much”, she added.

The first coverage of the story sent shockwaves across the Jammu city, which compelled many dignitaries to come forward on humanitarian basis to extend support to the suffering family.

“My daughter works and she has 20K debt on her, I’m very thankful to JK Channel as you have brought aid to our home”, said, Mrs Rita Devi to Mr Mohinder Jeet Singh, senior journalist of JK Channel.
Sitting inside the house of Mr Darshan Lal, Jammu Mayor Rajinder Sharma, said, “Their condition is worse but this is the reality of life and it is one of them”.
“I appeal natives to help them as per their calibre so that this family can overcome the problems”, he appealed.
“The ward councillors also have come and we have done what we can do and only with valour we can defeat our woes, ,masses will also motivate them in this hour of sorrow”, he remarked.
“I have also told Medical Superintendent of GMC they have to admit their father there, we will also look into the matter they’re facing”, he added.
“Our govt has built State Cancer Unit to see patients can be kept there or not during their treatment, facilities are also there, we will get him treated there”, he apprised.
“Our Councillors have given them ration and from tomorrow his daughter will join duty, she will get Rs 15,000 monthly, it will help them to sustain themselves”, he claimed.
“We are struggling as they’re in their life, we should help each other”, he asserted.
“There is a central water commission office affiliated with central govt near their house, I haven’t watched your report a gentleman apprised me”, he said.
“I told him we have to provide a job to someone and I called JK channel as I don’t know their house, I also called Medical Superintendent in the morning telling him we have to ward someone in the hospital”, he said.
“I had to attend some function so I could come only after 2pm so I came with you”, he added.
“We will help them in our capacities as they’re destitute and have a patient, we also ask people to extend them help”, a Ward councillor said.
“I received Mayor sir call that a family is in trouble so I created a vacancy, she will join her duty as a helper”, said, a Ward councillor.
“This is a life changing moment for them as mayor sir have provided them job their miseries will end now, their debt will be cleared. I thank Mohinder who highlighted their story”, a social activist said,
“Jammu Mayor has taken immediate action their other demands will also be fulfilled, they now just have to treat him”, he added.
“When your report came out 50-60 people shared it along with 5-6 NGO’s, we have screenshots of people who donated them money”, Head of Helping Hand NGO said.
“When we last checked their bank account it was credited with Rs 1.39 lac, your report’s impact helped them”, he said.
“We came with Shriyansh Helping Hand Foundation’s chairperson Chinkel Thapa he has also donated them Rs 5000 and his team has given them some clothes”, he added.
In the third Follow-up of the report a local Sikh activist can be seen giving ration and food items to the family and interacting with them and media.
In the fourth follow-up of the report, Jammu’s Mayor Rajinder Sharma can be spotted bringing an ambulance for the ailing victim to admit him to GMC Jammu, while the ward councillors can be seen lifting the victim on a stretcher and taking him to the ambulance
