Cop dies in Jammu, family alleges harassment by Police dept

Jammu: A cop died in Sangrampur area of Jammu yesterday due to brain stroke sparked protest by his family members, who alleged that the SI traffic police namely Ashok Kumar died because of constant harassment by his department, who aren’t disbursing his retirement money even after one year of his retirement.
Angry over this, the deceased’s family members staged an agitation with locals in Sangrampur by stopping their vehicle on the road in which they kept victim’s body demanding withheld pension and justice for the victim.
Talking to the media, Standing on the funeral vehicle an anguished elderly woman relative of the victim, said, “Our son came after retirement but he didn’t got his pension”.

“His pension is withheld by his dept and from an year this has pestered him day and night. The dept is responsible”, She said.
“He use to say I will die or get jailed”, she added.
“My father constantly used to visit his department for his withheld pension disbursal but his dept used to tell him that they’re working for his matter”, said, Victim’s son wailing.
“The dept told him we don’t have money to credit his retirement money. He has given his 60 years to the dept and were they in slumber that time when he was serving”, he alleged.
“He has been continuously visiting his dept for his retirement money since an year”, he claimed.
“We don’t have anything nor we have a job, who will help us now”, he asked.
“The department has not credited his retirement money and they also said brazenly they have nothing to pay him and told him to do what you can do against them”, a relative of the victim said.
“He was going to his office from an year and on Saturday he again went and demanded the same but dept apprised him they don’t have money for him, due to which he stressed out and he had a stroke”, he added.
“We admitted him at the hospital and he passed away this morning”, he asserted.
“How he has worked in the department for 40 years if his documents were not complete. Was the concerned office ignorant all these years”, he remarked.
“He has four kids and they are also poor”, he said.
“We just want that he should be given justice as he don’t even have a house and survived with children to feed”, a local man said.
“His wife and kids are starving and his department avoided his appeals he suffered cause of them only”, Deceased’s sister alleged wailing.
Later a police official arrived at the protest site and pacified the dissenters assuring them that the victim will be delivered justice.
