The Army on Wednesday paid tributes to Sepoy Pawan Kumar who was martyred during an encounter at Padgampora village in Awantipora sub district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in which two local militants were shot dead.
The two militants were accused of killing a Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Kumar in Pulwama on Sunday morning.
Chief of Staff, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to Sepoy Kumar, Army said.
Sepoy Kumar of 55 Rashtriya Rifles and part of the operational team that led from the front, in a sheer act of bravery he overpowered the first militant in a hand to hand combat and was grievously injured. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army, they said
Kumar, 26, had joined the Army in 2014 and hailed from village Pithyt, Rampur Shimla of Himachal Pradesh. He is survived by his mother.
