Jammu: Man duped of Rs 90,000 by cyber fraudster posing as electrician

Jammu: A man was duped of Rs 90K on the pretext of providing financial help to someone by a cyber scammer, yesterday.
As per report, the victim, a resident of Moungri, Udhampur district was tricked into revealing his Mpay details to man faking as an electrician who worked at his house.
The fraudster then proceeded to siphon off Rs 90,000 from his bank account.

“I was at my grandmother’s house, when I received a call, there was some network problem cause the voice wasn’t clear”, the victim said.

“The fraudster asked me did I identified him and I said no, but when I asked him are you electrician uncle who came at our house, he responded yes”, he added.
“The scammer told me that he has to transfer money to someone’s account and he asked me to install Phonepe app as he uses it to receive the cash in my account”, he said.
“I informed scammer that I use Mpay app, but he said no my phone is connected to Phonepe app and his cash will be transferred in that account, he tricked me there”, the victim alleged.
“Our call continued from 7-10pm and whenever I used to abort the call, the fraudsters again use to call me”, he said.
“I’m not that much literate, they were giving me instructions and I was following them”, the victim further said.
“The scammers asked me my ATM card number and they were telling me to install Phonepe app, I was having dinner when they called me again”, he added.
“Lastly, the cyber scammer asked how much money I have in my bank account, I informed him that I have Rs 1300 in my first account”, the victim said.
