Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three suspected Lashakr-e-Taiba associates in Srinagar and also recovered cash from them.
Officials said the trio was arrested by a police party during routine checking at Lasjan crossing along the national highway.
“A police party of Police Station Nowgam during routine checking spotted three suspicious individuals coming from Lasjan towards NHW carrying a blue colour cricket kit bag trying to avoid the naka checking party. They were tactfully apprehended by the alert naka party,” a police spokesperson said.
The trio was identified as Umar Adil Dar of Soiteng, Bilal Asmad Sidiqi of Kursoo Rajbagh and Salik Mehraj of Soiteng in Srinagar.
“During checking of the said kit bag carried by Umar, Indian currency cash amounting ₹331,65,200, a mobile phone, three pages of LeT letter pad was recovered. On personal search of the other two persons namely Bilal and Salik five pages each of LeT letter pad were recovered,” he said
“During preliminary investigation, it came to the fore that the trio was working as terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT,” police added.
Police said the money was received by them as a part of conspiracy to strengthen its cadres within Srinagar district.
“The said money was received by them on the directions of their handlers based in Pakistan as a part of larger criminal conspiracy hatched by terrorist organization within and across the border to pass/ raise money/ funds for furthering their activities and cause large scale disturbances in the UT of J&K,” the spokesperson said.
In this connection, a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered in Nowgam police station and further investigation was on.
“More recoveries and arrests are expected in the instant case,” he added
