Man dies mysteriously in police custody in Jammu, family accuses police


Jammu:
A man died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody in Nagri, Kathua, yesterday.

The report has said that Sonu Kumar (38) s/o Jagdish Kumar r/o Satta Chak in Kathua was arrested by Nagri police on 4th of Jan with 7 gram herion from Gool and yesterday, when his health worsened he was taken to PHC Nagri, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Later, the accused was shifted to GMC Kathua for the post-mortem under enhanced police security.

“I met my husband at 4pm in the police station, the police was not letting me to meet him”, Victim’s wife said weeping.

“He was my uncle, we went to meet him at 3pm in Nagri police station, he was fine and talked to us normally, the police informed us around 5:30pm, which shocked us”, Rahul deceased’s nephew allegedly said.

“It is unbelievable for us as we just met him and after sometime we learned from a villager that he died in police station”, he added.

“Earlier, police was not letting us to see him, they kept on saying our senior is coming, police has killed him cause earlier he was fine, only when we pleaded to them then they allowed us to meet him”, he said.

“There is no chance that he can hang himself. He was picked by police 3 days ago from our home and now he is no more”, he alleged.

“We also went to give him clothes at the police station, we thought he will be safe there. But now we are in grief”, Rahul said.
