National Conference vice-president and former Chief Minister J&K, Omar Abdullah on Monday appealed to Lieutenant Governor led Government to execute the bulldozer in eviction drives as “last option”, and added “The government is liable to heal the wounds of common people instead of putting them in further hardships”.

Adressing a press conference here in Srinagar, the former Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah expressed deep anguish over “inorganised” eviction drives across J&K. He said the government has put common and poor people into miseries and hardships due to eviction drives that are being carried out in J&K.

“Have government ever served notices to the occupants. Have they ever followed rule of law during the eviction process. Government should put reality before public in real sense,” Omar Abdullah questioned.

He said the complaints are pouring in from length and breadth of J&K that few unscrupulous elements have turned this eviction drive into mean of corruption who have started minting money from those whose names have been included in forged lists. “I appeal to Government of J&K that harassment of people should be stopped in the name of eviction drives. I want to clarify that our party is not against the drive. We are not in favor of land grabbing, but bulldozer should be the last option of the government,” Omar said.

“Those having possession of land without any valid document should also be served fresh notices so that the final resolution of the dispute will be settled amicably,” he added. Omar at the occasion said those who grabbed huge chunk of land through dacoits are enjoying on social media.

He said the government is duty bound to heal the wounds of common and poor people instead of creating difficult atmosphere for them. “If you see Delhi there too is state land which however have been regularized and has become a source of revenue for the government. Here too the government should think over it so that people’s miseries will come to an end,” he said.
