Unscheduled power cuts trigger protests in Jammu
The appalling power scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has exposed the tall claims of J&K Government with regard to ensuring colossal development and thousands of crores of investment in the industrial sector.
This was stated by Manish Sahni, President J&K Shiv Sena while staging protest in Jammu. Leaders of Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir unit, under the chairmanship of Manish Sahni, staged a vigorous protest in Lower Roop Nagar area by breaking TV and other electrical equipments that had become showpieces due to the extreme power cuts and setting them on fire.
Talking to reporters here today, Sahni expressed great disappointment over the callous attitude adopted by the administration for its failure to provide basic amenities to the people. He raised serious concern over dismal condition of power amidst chilly winters.
“In this period of severe cold, the widespread power cuts have disrupted the normal life. Business and small and big industries have come to a standstill, the LG administration has proved to be a complete failure in providing facilities and security to the general public,” Sahni said, adding that power cuts have continued even after the increase in electricity rates and installation of smart meters.
“In the name of Smart City, the roads of Jammu city are being brightened with the tax money of the public, but there is darkness in the houses of the same people due to lack of electricity supply,” Sahni said, adding that as soon as the havoc of corona stops and the work-business becomes normal, the expectations of the business class have been given a big blow due to power cut and lack of current.
