Aggrieved over no water supply in the area for the last two months, locals in Panchayat Kot, Ward number 1 of Sub Division Thana Mandi today protested against the Jal Shakti Department.
Carrying empty buckets and pots, the protesting villagers, mostly women, raised slogans against the Jal Shakti Department and blocked the road by holding demonstration.
The protesting people said that there was no water supply in the area for the last two months and even after senior officials of the department were informed several times, no action was taken to resolve the problem.
“Only two days back, there was a death in the area and people did not have water even to wash their hands,” they said and added that women have to fetch water from a distance of around one kilometer.
“On the one hand, Government is talking about taps in every house under Jal Jewan Mission but on the other hand, no water supply is ensured,” said the villagers and appealed Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to direct the concerned officials to provide water to the affected areas with immediate effect.
