A local court has convicted and awarded 20 years imprisonment to a tutor and imposed penalty of Rs 10 lakh fine on him for rape of a minor girl 7 years ago.
Principal District and Sessions Judge after finding the accused guilty of rape announced the quantum of punishment against the accused-teacher with rigorous imprisonment of 20 years in jail and also penalty of Rs 10 lakhs which the court directed to be paid to the victim.
The prosecution had sought the strict punishment for the convict-Mohammad Maqbool of D K Pora so that it could act as a deterrent for others.
In 2015, the convicted teacher had asked the student to come for tuition to his home where he assaulted her.
Following a complaint, Police registered a case (FIR No 179/2015) for rape of minor, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation at concerned Police Station and after investigation filed the chargesheet against the teacher who was posted at Government High School D K Pora.
