Jammu, October 25, 2022: In support of their demands, scores of PHE Daily Wagers of Jal Shakti Department staged a ‘Thali’ protest on Tuesday.
Holding ‘Thalis and earthen lamps’ in their steel plates several daily wagers assembled at their office and held a sit-in there.
While holding ‘thalis and earthen lamps’, in their plates the agitators chanted slogans like ‘this is earthen lamp (Diya) and our plates are empty.’

Interacting with the media one of the protesters allegedly said that wherever water supply disrupts they visit that place to ensure smooth supply water, but when daily wagers stage agitation no officer come in their support.
“People are celebrating Diwali, our officers are busy in shopping and we daily wagers are sitting here helpless. Where are those leaders who use to say that we are backbone of the department”. We don’t want to hear their speeches cause we only want food to eat. Many of our employees died to suicide because they were not given their pending salaries. I will call this murder”, he said.
Mr Rajinder Singh another protestor said that they been asking for their pending salaries from several months and since 22nd of June they have been protesting. Adding he said,” We are helpless and our kids are in miserable condition the government should tell us explicitly, whether they want us in this department or not and if they want us to resume our services then they should give us salaries and should return us our provident fund(PF) of last 20-25 years. We are not moving from here without being regularized”.
