Reasi, October 3,2022: The Indian Army officials on Monday initiated ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’  in coordination with many ‘National Cadet Corps’ participants of local schools to sensitize the local population of Katra, who resides near Banganga in Reasi to not dispose their waste into their local water bodies, so that it can be saved from further deterioration and could be  re-stored to its natural state.

Speaking at the occasion Colonel R.S Jasrotia interacted with the media and said that through this campaign they are trying to aware the local people to preserver their water bodies such as Banganga from being polluted by plastic waste.

He further informed that today they have gathered with the participants here with them aim to alert people how they can protect their rivers from garbage disposal.

“We have collected garbage from municipal committee and we will dispose this in eco-friendly way and will also tell the locals how to manage their waste”, he said.

Puneet Sagar Abhiyan was launched by NCC to clean Sea Shores/Beaches and other water bodies including rivers & lakes, of plastic & other waste and increase awareness amongst the local population about importance of keeping the beaches and river fronts clean. The purpose of the Abhiyan is to educate locals and sensitise them about ‘Swachh Bharat’.

The ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ is among the slew of initiatives taken by the government to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he referred to as ‘Panchamrit’ during the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference, COP26, held in Glasgow, Scotland between October 31 to November 13, 2021.
