Jammu, October 3, 2022: Scores of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) scholars staged a massive agitation outside University of Jammu and blocked the University road on Monday.
Scholars including girls sat on the both side of road to raise demand for justice.

While talking to the media, Scholars alleged, “The recent recruitment of Assistant Professors has violated the University Grants Commission (UGC) where Higher Education Authority of Jammu Kashmir has reduced PhD points to 2 from 25.”
“There’s a saying that if one wants to destroy a nation then one should make its scholars ignorant and the local administration has turn this proverb in reality by passing this order, they have reduced our hard earned doctorate’s to just two points” a vexed scholar allegedly said.
“We are not militants and are only expressing our rights then why the police is detaining us”, he allegedly said, when the local police detained him from the spot of agitation.
Another agitating female scholar allegedly told the media that the local regime has consolidated their higher qualifications against two points, which is totally not acceptable for them as they have devoted years to earn doctorates.
She further said that the bureaucrats are ruling the scholars now and they are passing the orders of which they hold no knowledge about.
“The graduates who have somehow become bureaucrats are now running the administration, they don’t the worth of our degrees and how can post-graduation hold more weightage than National Eligibility Test (NET) and PhD, this is utter justice imposed on us”, she allegedly said.
“We tried to reach out LG sir but he didn’t heard us out and told us to submit our memorandum to his personal assistant, we want to meet Lieutenant Governor sir personally to express our concerns”, one of the protestors allegedly said.
Later, the local police stuffed some agitators in police van from the scene of protest to the police station.
