A bomb threat on board an Iranian passenger flight while it was approaching Delhi put the authorities on alert and was denied permission to land in India.

The China-bound plane carried on its journey after clearance from authorities as it was not allowed to land in Delhi and Jaipur due to technical reasons.

A call regarding the bomb threat on the flight coming from Tehran was received at 9:20 am, said police. The Air Traffic Control shared the information with the flight as it was in Indian airspace at that time.

Fighter jets from Punjab and Jodhpur airbases were scrambled to intercept the plane sources said.

The authorities at the Delhi airport were immediately put on alert and permission was sought for landing. But permission was not granted due to technical reasons and diverted to Jaipur. But it was not permitted to land in Jaipur too.

The plane is now on its way to China.
