Doda, Oct 01, 2022: District Legal Services Authority, Bhaderwah , today organised an awareness program on the “Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse Act, 2012(POCSO) and J&K Victim Compensation Scheme 2019 and ‘The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 at Govt. Higher Secondary School Girls Bhaderwah under the supervision of Secretary DLSA Bhaderwah in which Advocate Mohd Majid Malik was the resource person while Principal of the school Brij Kumar , Sujata Devi teacher , Rajni Devi teacher , Sanjay Kumar , Sumira Tabassum jr Assistant , PLVs Afsha Shamim , Pryanka Sharma , Asha Dutt , Renu Parihar , Afzal Dev , Omesh Kumar , Sanjeet Charak and others were there who were present on the occasion.
Talking to the particpants Advocate Mohd Majid Malik shared his knowledge on the subjects and sensitised the students about the core issues on the subjects.
He informed that POCSO Act 2012 is a legislation which aims at protecting children from all types of sexual abuse and speaking further at the event he also informed that this act provides strigent deterrents for the commission of offences against children ranging from a mimimum of 20 years of impriosnment to the death penality in case of aggravated penetrative sexual assult .
“The POSCO act 2012 is divided into 46 sections and section 24, 26 and 33 of the act lays down the procedure of the investigation and trail keeping in view the need of the child.The act provides for establishment of special courts for trail of offences and said the act incorporates child friendly proceedings for reporting , recording of evidence , investigation and trail of offences”, he said.
He added that according to Section 29 of the act the person who is procesuted for the commission of the child sexual abuse offences is presumed to have committed or abetted or attempted to committ such offence .The burden of proof under POCSO Act is shifted to the accused and the act was enacated when the cases of the sexiual abuse against children were rising .
In the middle of the programme, a documentary Film of Childline on “Good Touch and Bad Touch”” was also screened for the students on the projector and more than 500 girls of the school participated in the camp and refreshment were also distributed among them by DLSA Bhaderwah .
