Jammu, Sept 27,22: Scores of climate front activists on Tuesday held an agitation in Jammu, the activists shouted slogans like ‘What we want climate justice and what we want now’, ‘ one two three, there is no planet-b’, and ‘our proud Raika and Jammu tawi’ in their agitation against the policy makers and the government.

“Today we are observing this protest on occasion of ‘global climate strike’ which is being celebrated everywhere and in India also. Here, we have only two issues Tawi river and Raika forest both are being polluted. We demand that the proposal for the Janipur high court should be cancelled so that the 30,000 trees which are suppose to cut down for its construction can be saved. The Tawi river provides water to every household in Jammu and all the pollution of drains is being dispose there, if we lost our trees in such huge quantity our natural carbon sink will vanish”, a climate activist said.

She further said that if we see Jammu less polluted it is only cause of the raika forest and Jammu will turn Delhi if local forests deforested.

“We only want the LG administration to not cut these trees as they are the lungs of the Jammu. We have only this urban forest here, which exists close to our city. We use to visit Sidhra to feel cool breeze and if this area is cleared then our city will witness floods like Karnataka”, another activist said.
