Samba, September 27, 2022: The Power Development DepartmentĀ  organised a meeting forĀ  the ward corporators of Jammu’s Samba district to aware them about the LG govt’s new Amnesty Scheme.

After the meeting Mr Ajay Pal AEE, PDD told the media that from 1st of October the domestic power consumers will receive two bills one regular and other amnesty bill and consumers across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will obtain the benefit of Amnesty Scheme which was approved by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on 12th of this month.

He further said that today they organised a firstĀ  camp here in the city to clear the doubts of the corporatorsĀ  regarding the amnesty scheme and after that they will also organise such awareness camps in BDO office, local panchayats and other areas of the Jammu city.

He further said that the LG sir has waived off the interest of the earlier bills and the principal bill amount will be paid by consumers regularly without any fail as they were paying.

“The consumers really should take the advantage of this scheme as this scheme is only valid till the end of this year and those consumers who will fail in paying their installments, the administration has decided to take harsh action against them” he added.

Recently, this decision was taken by the Administrative Council in view of domestic consumers not being able to avail the benefits of last scheme due to spread of COVID-19 pandemic during the scheme period.

The order wasĀ  issued by Principal Secretary to the Government, Power Development Department Nitishwar Kumar, sanction has been accorded to waive-off 100% interest/surcharge on outstanding electricity bills in favour of domestic consumers accumulated up to March 31, 2022 subject to certain terms and conditions.

The GovernmentĀ  has said earlier that the failure of payment of any installment/installments within the prescribed 12 months period will invite penalty and legal action under Electricity Act, 2003 in addition to the accrual of compound interest on the outstanding dues and the benefits of scheme shall be availed by way of paying of installments in the prescribed period of 12 months after segregation of outstanding dues from the current bills. However, the current bills will be paid separately and regularly without any fail.

It has been made explicit in the earlier order by the Government that the consumers who fail to pay the current bill simultaneously with the payment of monthly outstanding installments shall forfeit the benefits of the Amnesty Scheme besides disconnection of power supply.
