The death toll in one of the shootings on September 12 in Canada’s Ontario province climbed to two after an Indian student , who sustained injuries in the incident, died on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Satwinder Singh. He was reportedly undergoing treatment at Hamilton General Hospital.
The news was confirmed by Halton Regional Police. “This is heartbreaking news for our community which hasn’t even begun to heal from Monday’s traumatic events,” said Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen Tanner as quoted by a local media there.
Singh worked part-time at an auto body shop in Milton. At the time of the incident, he was at the shop. On Monday, one person died while three others, including Singh, were injured in the shooting that took place in Ontario’s Milton town
The other person who died in the shooting was the owner of the shop. He was identified as 38-year-old Shakeel Ashraf. The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Sean Petrie. On Monday, the accused killed Toronto police constable Andrew Hong at a coffee shop in Mississauga.
After committing the crime, Petrie fled from the spot. He then moved to Milton where he shot dead Ashraf and injured Singh at MK Auto Repairs. Later, Petrie was killed by police in a Hamilton Cemetery. The accused also worked at the auto repairs shop for a short time.
Earlier on September 4, at least 10 people died, while 18 others were injured in a stabbing incident in a remote Saskatchewan Indigenous community. The two accused were brothers. One of the accused was found dead a day after the stabbing incident. The other accused was arrested later.
