Jammu, August 25, 2022: Hundreds of students of Govt Higher sec school Basantpur, Kathua today staged a massive protest, while  clogging the  National highway and suspending the vehicular movement there, the anguished students shouted their demands.

Shriya Devi a protesting student said that they have only two rooms where all their classes takes place which thus effects their studies because there is need of a proper school building to accommodate all the students that’s why they are demanding a proper infrastructure so they can avail education without any hurdle, these days ‘Beti bachao/ Beti padhao’ (save girls/educate girls) campaign is very much in vogue but here we girls are sitting  on the roads for  such basic facilities.

“We lack class rooms here cause of which higher class students were attending their classes in a single room yesterday  and  when rainfall occurs  the students use to attend their classes  holding the umbrellas in their hands and many a times because of heavy down pour the school use to remain shut due to which our studies suffer”, Pallavi Sharma another protesting student said.

Another student  added that they  are being taught very well by the school staff,  but they lack  a proper school infrastructure which is a very needful thing.

She further said that many students who are enrolled in this school use to come from far-flung areas and if their education effects cause of this where they will go then.

A teacher informed  that the  students today staged this  sit-in here so that they can get a proper school accommodation for themselves and they were not aware that their students have given calls for this protest.

She further informed  that the school staff have forwarded the demands of the students to the Chief education officer (CEO) and they have been assured that the education department will rent a private building to accommodate the students on temporary basis and that will continue till the time the school gets one of its own.
