Jammu, 21 August: Samreen kaur has brought laurels for J&K UT by winning gold in junior power lifting championship held in Kerala on 13th of this month.

Samreen hails from Jammu  who has participated in many state and national level weight lifting championships.

“The competition was held in Kerala and I participated in Junior weight lifting category championship in which I performed squat lifting(162.5kg), dead lifting(172.5kg) bench press lift(87.5kg) and for such championships lot of efforts are needed like daily diet, workout routine and training to build stamina and put up a competition”, weight lifter Samreen Kaur said.

She further said my parents are very supportive of me and also my coaches because of them I snatch this gold medal in the championship.

JK UT Power lifting association General secretary Ajay Sharma  said our whole team is feeling immense pleasure that our kid has won gold in sub-junior power lifting championship in Kerala, she became the first power-lifting  woman of J&K and also its been 10-15 years that our students are winning medals by participating in many national weight-lifting championships and are also getting jobs because of this.

He further informed that they are going to conduct a weight lifting competition in Bhagwati nagar in the coming days.

Mohd Owais Riyaz another weight lifter said that he has won 4 gold medals this time in the mentioned championship and have performed & won gold in all the formats of the sport like bench, squat and dead lift. He  broke his earlier personal best of 210kg in squat lifting and won gold this time for setting a new record of 222.5kgs in squat-lifting.

He further said that power-lifting demands strenuous workout and training, while during that they also suffer injuries to achieve such achievements.

” I like power lifting and I use to take inspiration from my fellow sport persons, this time I have lifted 62.kgs in squat and 100kgs in bench press in the championship” Shivani Langeh another woman athlete said.

Another athlete Bhuvan Vasudev said that he bagged gold in 250kgs dead lift.

“One of our student Gaurav Sharma who has many records on his name in power lifting is not present here at this moment, as he is doing hard labour right now to contest at the upcoming world championship”, coach Ajay Sharma said.
